As a collaborative organization, Green Chips has fostered a variety of community events and projects. Some of our most impactful collaborations include…
Convene For Green
Convene for Green is Green Chips’ high-level regional discussion around developing goals and ideas, as well as promoting the important economic, social, and environmental successes of the Southern Nevada region and identifying key challenges for the coming year that can be tackled head-on via uniquely innovative partnerships and community engagement. In 2015 the conference revolved around “Creating Our Sustainability Identity” and in 2016 we shifted the focus to “360° of Sustainability” with discussions around education, food insecurity, and homelessness.
Opportunity Village Sean’s Park
Sean’s Park is a 2.5-acre innovative life-learning park developed for children and adults with intellectual and physical disabilities that opened at Opportunity Village’s Ralph and Betty Engelstad Campus in May of 2016. Green Chips was proud to be a part of the project and to provide solar power for this amazing place that offers Southern Nevadans a place to learn, explore, relax, and play
Green Chips State of Sustainability Report
Green Chips published its first annual Southern Nevada State of Sustainability Report in 2016. The purpose of this report is to provide the context surrounding the eight major pillars that support a sustainable community (economy, health, nature, built environment, energy, community, social equity and transportation). In addition, it serves to highlight the positive strides made in this on-going effort throughout Southern Nevada, while also pinpointing the areas where additional attention, and progress, is needed. NV Energy Assessment Program
Through EnergyFit Nevada, a program of Green Chips, we are conducting over 2,100 home energy assessments for Nevada residents and saving them an average of 7% on their energy bills and over $200 per year through energy education and recommendations since January 2015.
Sustainable Business Partnership Program
The first of a suite of toolkits to come, this program is a toolkit designed to provide small businesses with the resources to make more sustainable choices. Available for use by any small business, this easy to follow guide makes addressing sustainability within the workplace easy and effective.
Green Chips helped to facilitate the STAR Certification of the City of Las Vegas in 2015. Upon receiving their rating as a 4 STAR community, Las Vegas became the first city in Nevada and the 43rd in the nation to receive a rating from STAR Communities, a nonprofit organization that certifies sustainable communities.
Energy Smart PSA Contest
In partnership with DRI GreenPower, NV Energy, Southwest Gas, and the Governor’s Office of Energy, Green Chips held the EnergySmart Student Energy Efficiency Contest where students from all across nevada created energy efficiency PSAs to share how to save energy at home, at school and around the community.
